Secondary Metallurgy

Calcium Carbide is applied in various processes in the secondary metallurgy of steel. As a fine powder it is injected  in the deep desulfurization. Fine grained or lumpy product is applied for deoxidation at tapping and for slag reduction.

Calzot® offers an effective, safe and low cost method to the steel worker for nitrification in liquid metal processing as well as in nitride hardening of finished components.

CalciPro® expands the well-established cored wire technology with the filling material Calcium Carbide. The application of CalciPro® in the calcium treatment of steel leads to highest efficiency, safety and lowest costs.

CalciPro® improves castability by preventing clogging during continuous casting. It is used to modify inclusions and to improve steel properties like machinability.

AlzChem offers a solution for safe transport, storage and handling. The conventional 13 mm cored wire is directly pulled out of an approved container.

Calzot® is an effective, safe and low cost additive for nitrogen alloying in liquid metal processing as well as in nitride hardening of finished components.

Calzot® is offered in paper or plastic bags, steel drums, bigbags or as cored wire.
Depending on application purpose and technique we will recommend the suitable granulation.
The highest yield and precision is reached when Calzot® is applied as cored wire.

  • High and constant nitrogen content for safe alloying
  • Less temperature and less time compared to alloying via gas phase

Calcium Carbide is a highly powerful reagent for various applications in secondary metallurgy:

  • Desulfurization to ultra-low sulfur contents by injection of fine Calcium Carbide powder
  • Deoxidation and slag treatment by addition of coarse Calcium Carbide during tapping or at the ladle treatment station

Calcium Carbide is packed in containers from 1 to 1.5 t or in steel drums of 120 kg.
Different granulations are available.
