A traditional groundbreaking ceremony on March 16 officially opened construction on AlzChem Group AG’s new production plant in Trostberg for the feed additive CreAMINO®1. Dr. Peter Ramsauer (MdB), Klaus Steiner (MdL), District Administrator of Traunstein Siegfried Walch and Trostberg Mayor Karl Schleid were among AlzChem’s welcomed guests.
The groundbreaking ceremony on March 16 marked the official start of construction of AlzChem’s new production plant for the feed additive CreAMINO® at the Trostberg Chemical Park. The project will roughly triple production capacity for CreAMINO® and sustainably increase the sales proportion the product generates. The Management Board and Supervisory Board approved the 50-million-euro investment last October. Both project planning and construction law review by the responsible authorities were subsequently completed in just a few months.
“We are excited to start implementing the largest investment in our company’s history together with you,” said AlzChem CEO Ulli Seibel, welcoming the approximately 60 guests from politics, administration and partners. Following the groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new production plant in the Trostberg Chemical Park, German Bundestag member and former Federal Minister Dr. Peter Ramsauer congratulated the company on this promising project and highlighted its significance for the region: “Chemistry has played an important role in this region for more than a hundred years, and the continuing growth of AlzChem also means the further strengthening of our economic area.” Markus Zöllner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AlzChem Group AG, emphasized in his address AlzChem’s global leadership position with its innovative feed additive. “CreAMINO® is a sustainable product in the best sense of the word,” he added. “It reduces the ecological footprint of poultry farming while supporting supply security for our rising world population.” Afterwards, AlzChem Management Board member Klaus Englmaier took the guests on a virtual tour of the future plant and Dr. Jürgen Sans, Head of Innovation Management at AlzChem, illustrated the journey from coal and lime to CreAMINO® in an experimental presentation.
CreAMINO® is a guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) and is processed into creatine, the body’s own substance, once absorbed by animals. This process improves feed conversion by making nutrients in feed easier to absorb. The increased feed conversion also stimulates natural muscle growth. This in turn leads to a reduction in the total amount of feed required – even without the addition of animal proteins.
The growing market for feed additives is driven by the growing world population. According to the United Nations, approximately 7.3 billion people populated the earth in 2015. That figure is expected to rise to 8.5 billion by 2030. At the same time, the land area that can be used for agricultural purposes will become more and more limited. This scenario is leading to the increasing importance of efficient agricultural processes and supply security.
