EFSA delivers a positive opinion on creatine for the improvement of muscle strength in the elderly

Following an application of AlzChem AG for authorization of a health claim for creatine the respective EFSA Panel (European Food Safety Authority) delivered a positive opinion on the effect of creatine: “Daily creatine consumption can enhance the effect of resistance training on muscle strength in adults over the age of 55”. The daily intake should be at least 3 g creatine and should be combined with regular resistance training of moderate intensity.

Authorization of the health claim is now subject to the decision by the European Commission.
