Press Release (06.02.2012) - "NaWi - geht das?"
“Science – How Does it Work?”
Second workshop features exciting experiments for prospective
elementary school teachers
Last Friday the follow-up seminar "Science - How Does it Work" (NaWi) was held in the Trostberg Chemical Park for 12 trainee elementary school teachers from the Traunstein district. Once again AlzChem and BASF experts took participants through a series of experiments and discussions on the subject of water, recycling, fire and air.
“Science – How Does it Work?” now moves to the second workshop round with “NaWi plus”. AlzChem and BASF invited their cooperation partners to a further teacher training event so that they could try out new experiments for elementary schools. The lfbz Frankfurt (Teacher Training Center of the Institute for the Didactics of Chemistry) has developed a series of new experiments and tests for elementary schools. Multipliers of AlzChem and BASF tested them, and taught
them to futur teachers during a second workshop yesterday. AlzChem project head Sylvia Strobel, Florian Ritzinger, AlzChem, and Alexandra Pelg, BASF, guided attendees through the new series of experiments, Part 2.
These included experiments such as the “Manufacture of casein painting colors”, “Milk is an emulsion”, “The heavy newspaper” and “Bottle swallows egg”. Says AlzChem director Stefan Greger: “In addition to researching and marketing our products, we also have a duty to get actively involved in educating the next generation. This begins in the kindergarten with very simple scientific experiments, moving on to internships, ‘taster’ apprenticeships, workshops at the training laboratory and through to information events at job trade fairs. Ultimately it is curiosity that drives young people to want to get to the heart of how things work. And nowhere does this work better than in science.” This is why the participants enjoyed the successful workshop so much and why the chemistry experts were thrilled at the level of interest shown by the young teachers. Rodrigo Fernandez, head of seminars for trainee teachers in the Traunstein district, comments: “It is simply wonderful to have the opportunity to work with two companies that are so committed and reliable as AlzChem and BASF. We are very grateful for that.”
