Press Release - Successful Apprenticeship Day 2010 at AlzChem and BASF

As in previous years, the training and apprenticeship division had the opportunity to introduce itself to the public at the CHEMICAL PARK TROSTBERG last Saturday.

More than 600 school leavers and young people together with their parents took advantage of the opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into the wide range of training and apprenticeship options and facilities available. AlzChem Trostberg GmbH trains apprentices at its facilities not just to meet its own needs, but also to provide the next generation of professionals for the two Trostberg-based group companies of BASF, the world market leaders in chemicals.

“As BASF Trostberg we are pleased that young people who will be joining our team as well at a later date are being trained as apprentices by our experienced and expert colleagues from AlzChem. A training at the CHEMICAL PARK Trostberg provides an excellent basis for a future career", says Christian Hemmerich, site coordinator of BASF Trostberg.

There were many drop-in centers set up on Saturday, each focused around a specific profession and ready to provide information about the apprenticeships available in the various professional disciplines, all of which provide a fundamental knowledge of the area and proper qualifications:

  • Chemistry laboratory technician
  • Chemical technician
  • Electronic technicians for manufacturing engineering
  • Industrial mechanics

The apprenticeship lasts 3.5 years.

An apprenticeship as an IT technician requires three years.

The business professions of industrial sales representative and office communication specialist require an apprenticeship period of 2 ½ years. Further information is available at www.alzchem.de. The closing date for applications for the 2011 apprentice year is October 8, 2010.

“Training holds the key to our future. We are well aware of our responsibility for the up-and-coming generation, our company and our region. So our aim is for the Apprenticeship Day to help others feel as enthusiastic about our company as we are”, says Stefan Greger, managing director in charge of personnel at AlzChem. On September 1, 36 young men and women will begin their apprenticeships at AlzChem.

AlzChem, which has more than 1,300 employees, around 130 apprentices and sales of approx. 250 million euros is an innovative chemicals company structured as a mid-sized company. AlzChem has been operating successfully in the area of specialty chemicals for more than 100 years. NCN chemistry is the name given to products having a typical nitrogen-carbon-nitrogen bond. A whole portfolio of these products was developed from scratch in Trostberg. The most import applications are found in agriculture (e.g. plant protection, growth regulation and multipurpose fertilizers), in fine chemicals (e. g. pigments, pharmaceutical ingredients and synthetic components), in industrial applications for plastics processing and in the nutrition segment (e.g. creatine).

AlzChem's New Businesses” segment focuses very specifically on developing new applications and innovative products and formulations. The broad product portfolio is complimented by custom synthesis and industrial contract milling and contract service filling, all perfectly aligned to the needs of customers.
